Hi, How you All doing?

Let me introduce myself to you, I'm a first-time Author, from Manchester England, This is the first ever Blog I've ever done - hope I get it right!  Anyway, I'm a busy Mother of 5 and have written a Series of 'Epic Fantasy Adventure Books' readership age (18+).  I'm shattered, to say the least, have any of you got any suggestions as to possible Marketing avenues I could consider.  I released Part one last month just weeks before Christmas and am looking forward to getting the first money I've earned later this month, after not earning a single penny since 2009. Yes, I'm sure it's been really hard for many of you too, trying to finish up your books and get the visions of your mind out there for all to read. Hope you'll enjoy mine 'AGES OF RAEKWON - Awakenings Arousal the Peoples Story'.  I never anticipated how hard it would be to follow through with the promotion or get people, to take me seriously. The saying              'do not judge a book by its cover', seems to also apply to them looking at me.  So, please tell me how you're finding it all, I'd love to hear your...Stories!

Best,

Clio-Mystery

I've just written a book that I peg as a Stream of Consciousness experience. The title is WTF. We know what that translates to if spelled out. SOC's do not follow the tradition structure of a book: plot, character development, and/or use of common narrative devices. It's not a novel. It's not commentary except in an oblique fashion nor an extended essay. It's more of a sly satire on the use of modern language. It's practically anything goes. It's chaotic but coherent at the same time. In essence, its sui generis. The reader is in for an amusement ride: short, sweet, and intense.

Hi,

I have been using CreateSpace since I first thought about creating a book in 2012.  What a wonderful opportunity they provide.  Not only do they offer us guidance about creating a cover, they offer us the opportunity to print and make a reasonable quality book at a very, very, minimal cost.  Then they connect us to the mammoth sales opportunities offered by Amazon.com and offer us a community to discuss with.  What could be better?  A publisher liked one of my ideas (Have You Seen My Daddy's 18 Wheeler?) but only wanted to offer me a self-publishing contract.  It made me feel vindicated, but I had to tell him "Thanks, but No Thanks ".

But, to describe me, I retired from full-time civil engineering in April, 2014.  I designed highways and by-ways, as well as other infrastructure improvements, I inspected their construction, I raised two wonderful daughters, and was an active Rotarian for more than 20 years.  Now my wife and I travel, I take lots of photographs, I constantly read and am beginning to cook, I provide some part-time civil engineering to a very select group of clients, and I write, write, write.  I love it .

Now I an spending time taking pictures of 18 Wheelers, contacting the owners to gain their approval, arranging them into a series of children's travel books, and trying to market them.  I titled them "Have You Seen My Daddy's 18 Wheeler?" (one book with 176 pictures and a story about what Daddy experiences) and "Have You Seen My 18 Wheeler?" (12 books with 19 pictures and area for recording information about the sighting).

I also make presentations to high school and college students who are considering civil engineering as their field of study - it is amazing how many of them really have no concrete idea about what we, as civil engineers, do for infrastructure construction.  I titled two different books "Russell Builds a Bridge" and "Russell Widens a Road".  And then, after my younger brother passed away, I created a biographical history about our mother for her grandchildren.  I titled it "What Did He Tell Her?" because the married life she lead as the wife of a share-cropping Iowa farmer did not fit with the New York City childhood she had before that marriage.  I thought it was a pretty unique story.

So, if you would preview, make comments about, and/or offer condolences about the books and my ideas, I would appreciate it.  If you want my input about your projects, please let me know what you are working on and how to find it and I will return the favor.

Hello, new Sci-Fi writer

Posted by Blackie_Chan Apr 16, 2017

Hello, everyone, my name is Justin Pyfrom and I'm a lover of all things Science Fiction and Video Games. I've been a lover of storywriting since I was in grad school and it followed me until I got my Bachelor's in Game Simulation and Programming. But, after a few failed projects, my best mate reminded me that EVERYBODY knows how to design a game but where I really shine is telling a compelling story and creating intriquing characters. With that, I was convinced to do what I really love and write stories that "bend minds". I'm hoping that I do them proud and learn more about myself in the process.

Please, any and all feedback is greatly appricated.

Another day of pen pushing.

Posted by autumnwhispr Jan 15, 2017

Hello world,

It's a beautiful day full of sunshine and I'm feeling great. I think my mind is in the writing state which means I may get a few good pages of work done on my new book project. I already have one published here so far its going no where but that isn't going to stop me I'm head strong and determined that Great Spirit saved me from cancer for a reason and I'm meant to do great things. My ultimate goal is to help find a cure for cancer and I have vowed that I will donate a dollar proceeds off of every book I sell to doing just that. I write for enjoyment I love it and if I can help kill this dreadful diease in the process then I'll never give up.

Just Landed ^i^

Posted by Ariael Dec 13, 2016

Hi. I'm Ariael.   I don't know why I am using a pseudonym. I usually don't do that but I am going with it. \

I have written and edited 10 Chapters of my most recent book. A fellow author told me about Create Space

for publishing. I am giving it a try.

Only one day of working with the program and I already have had to contact support.

First of all I don't use pdf files. Never have and probably never will. I am 56 years old and I don't want to learn a

new writing program!! Sometimes I think I should go back to my trusty IBM word processor and write a book

and submit it--on paper!! I would like that. Unfortunatelty that is not the world we live in.

So, as a writer who desires to be published, I journey on trying to learn new things all in an effort to get my book

out there for the readers it is intended to reach.

So, I don't do pdf files. Mine is in a docx format. So when I select the file and save it, it appears to be working. Then it

says I have 5 errors and I cannot edit the document. The only way I see to edit it is to go back to my original document and

make the changes and then reupload it. I was under the impression that I could upload and then edit, even finish the book

in create space.

I must be wrong or I can't figure it out.

I seriously don't know why I am writing this blog. I doubt anyone will read it and if they do they probably won't help. Ohm what a terrible attitude I

have about social media. lol

Anyway, I contacted tech support and await their answer.

I also want to upload my own pic for the cover but it is not in pdf either. It, of course, is a jpeg!! Why does everything have to be so complicated?? Good Grief!

Thanks for reading--I am going to read and try to learn to navigate this site. Here goes....

I usually don't complain this much in one post. lol

My story is quite different

Posted by Enigmus Oct 10, 2016

Dear All,

My story is different in so many aspects that I am left without any axis to build upon the next step.

I have written a fantasy saga. That is normal, though fantasy sagas like Lord of The Ring is not that common. But they are there.

It is also in English. Which is ... well you know ... quite common.

The first thing that makes it different is that I am not a professional writer, I am an engineer. Which makes me totally out of place within the sophisticated curves of your world, the world of literature and publication.

The second thing is that I am Egyptian, which makes writting in english, since my first language is arabic, quite an odd choice. Yet it is done and I think that is not common yet had had its toll in making things even more difficult (specially in marketing - surely my main market is not in Egypt)

The third thing and the most important is the flavor of the fantasy itself. It is a parallel world full of magic, fantastic creatures and mysteries though I have tried to avoid any cliche. It took me five years to come up with a unique world setting full of surprises and genuine ideas not found in any similar fictional world.

Yet that is not the essence of the story.

My story is quite philosophical with deep insights and hidden messages. It is quite dramatic and in some points, melancholic.

This mix of the genre and the philosophical / humane aspect along with my back ground which is reflected in many ways within the story line makes it quite difficult to market.

Fantasy fans are not neccesssarily attracted to deep dramatic and philosophical stories. Drama fans will surely not look for their next book in the fantasy section. And surely people looking for some strong philosophical messages will not see beyond the obvious mythical look of the book's cover.

Even agents and publishing houses will be confused when they review my book. Also due to the target audience issue.

Sometimes I ask myself: What have I done? What have I created?

Now, the question is: Is there any real market for such a blend?

Hello my name is Eugene Helfrick and I recently self published my novel, Fighting The Western Sky. I've had this book kicking around for a few years after I made it for a thesis project in college and I decided to self-publish it just to get it out to the world. It is always a fun and rewarding process to see something you made go out to the world, even in a limited fashion like self-publishing.

I'm just trying to get feedback on the novel right now, so it's a buck on Kindle and I am also offering it free on my website if anyone wants to give it a look to see what you think. I really struggled with writing a good synopsis, so I felt like it might be easier to just offer the book for free so people can give it a try before they buy it.

Fighting The Western Sky is an adventure novel with elements of comedy and mystery. The main story is about Margo, a 36 year old royal messenger who after nearly 20 years as a messenger to the King, is starting to grow tired with the bureaucracy, redundancies and over complications that come with working for a bloated Kingdom. Furthering these frustrations are deaths occurring around Margo's home city, causing rule changes that force him to take on a bodyguard in order to leave the city and deliver his messages. The primary interactions come between Margo and his young and inexperienced bodyguard, Blaine, while they deliver the King's messages throughout the land.

One thing I tried to do was play with the narrator/ reader relationship. In my novel, the narrator will sometimes talk over the story, adding in his own thoughts, feelings and other comments to the story while he is telling it. He isn't always a reliable narrator, though, having his own issues that he deals with during the course of the story.

Thank you and I hope to hear some feedback along the way from other writers. Even if my novel isn't perfect, I still hope people find my first attempt a worthy venture.

I recently revised my book and was published on Friday. I am extremely excited. While I was looking at the different links I found this forum under community.

I hope to get a lot of information, tips and hints for my next publication.  It is nice being here with other Indie authors.  I can't wait to get to know some of you and share experiences with the publishing process. I am sure there are things I can be told that will ultimately make the process smoother.
