Re: New CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform Imprint

Sorry I am real late on this Seal. My concern was, and is, that the phrase "independent publisher" can mean not owned by someone, or something else, except indirectly by shareholders. Createspace, a dba, might qualify at first blush. Other publishers not considering themselves "independent" would also be in this group. The reason I do not think Amazon's On-Demand unit is independent is because I recall that Amazon accepts advertisements from publishers and others. If so, there is no independence at all- once the book is printed. It becomes the law of the jungle - the biggest ad budget, rather than the best work would attract the immediate attention of buyers, I think. It is as if Norton put a book from Tor on the inside cover of its catalog, for money.

Re: New CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform Imprint

What brought this on? Was it CS or Amazon's own idea, or pressure form the traditional publishers? The main problem for us may be that even independent bookstores will hesitate to stock our books (even on consignment).
