Folks,

Does CreateSpace have coloring book creation capibilities???

I do not see a coloring book template with the "Start a Project" tab.

Re: Coloring Book on CreateSpace?

Yes, you can print most kinds of books here, within the limited trim size, paper and binding options.

There are no templates for this sort of thing, but you don't really need them for a colouring book anyway. Just make sure the document size atches the trim size and that you keep images sufficiently away from the edges of the pages.

Re: Coloring Book on CreateSpace?

I've done a couple of coloring books for clients.  Here's my advice: the key is in how you prepare your print ready art; for example, less than 100% black will produce a dot (halftone), Photoshop black will produce a dot, scanning can produce a gray not white background, too low a resolution can lead to jaggies.  Do a test book.

Take one or two images and prepare them different ways, combine them into one PDF, use a free ISBN, throwaway title, and do a test book.  Find out what prints best from your art work, and how best to prepare it for printing.

Re: Coloring Book on CreateSpace?

Again, thank you. I've not done any of this before......found out about CreateSpace from a friend who produces (written) books so I thought I'd explore it, look to see how to use it.

I like your suggestion about doing a test book......once I get my coloring book images completed!

I have many, many questions after that........I used to "ink" story boards and thought that is what I'd do with my images....ink them..No? (yes?) Then scan them......but I'm not there yet! Soon though....

Thanks!

Re: Coloring Book on CreateSpace?

Hi there,

I just published my first colouring book via Create Space.

It was all fairly simple, you need to decide size of book. There are free templates to download. Layout the artwork to fit that size, save as pdf and upload.

I hope it goes well!

Re: Coloring Book on CreateSpace?

Hi Kitty!  I've just started to input information into CreateSpace for my coloring book and would like to know if you'd answer questions for me? What type of ISBN did you use? This is as far as I've gotten (because without choosing one  I cannot go any further). Did your kitty images have to each be made into PDF files to be uploaded into the templates? What size were your images? Is your front cover your only color plate? Did you or CreateSpace set your price? Can your coloring book be purchased in stores?

Kitty, I sincerely appreciate your help and response to these questions!

Re: Coloring Book on CreateSpace?

Hi Pannet,

- I used the free ISBN option. I can't quite now remember why! It just seemed easiest I think. There is info on CS page about the differences.

-  I did the layout first within the template provided for my size (10" x 8"), and then converted to PDF

- Not sure what you mean about size of images, they will obviously need to fit within your size. When you choose the size of your book, there is the option to download a template for your layout.

Before choosing my size, I ordered a book from Amazon that I knew was published via CS (Jenean Morrison). This gave me a good idea of how my designs would fit, and how many pages I would need. You can order samples from CS of different sizes, covers (gloss or matte) and paper. This was really helpful.

- Yep only the cover is in colour, but CS can make full colour books, again I got a sample of this.

- I set the price. CS can suggest a price in pounds/dollars (depending on where you are) or you can choose. CS tell you the amount you make on each.

- I only published on 4th of August, and so far am only selling via Amazon. I think that book stores can buy via book wholesalers, but not sure about that one. It is all explained though as you go step-by-step.

I hope this is helpful

Good luck with your book, and have a great evening!

All the best

Re: Coloring Book on CreateSpace?

Thank you Kitty! I saw and like your Cats!! They are fun!

Thank you for your answers they are helpful! I drew my images on 9x12 sheets and they have a quarter of an inch border around them so I'm thinking I will choose the 8.5x11 size offered for color interiors (as I will have one inside color plate as well as the front cover).

I am forging ahead and do appreciate your kindness and help!

Be aware that any color at all in the interior will cause the book to be priced as full color. To compare the difference in costs that will cause, use this calculator: https://www.createspace.com/Products/Book/#content7.

Sarah.....what about the front and/or back covers.....can they be color? Do we choose the interior color option for them also?

Re: Coloring Book on CreateSpace?

Hello again!

Kitty you stated  you used the template provided for your book size..........was it the Word template they offer or is there a template (blank) to be used for covers (of the various sizes) and then you can convert it to PDF?

This process isn't as simple to me as I wish it would be........

Thank you for being patient with me asking so many questions.

The cover is a different file, and is always printed in color. You can find a cover template at http://bookow.com/resources.php#cs-cover-template-generator.
