Re: Amazons move to remove Create Space

Canada is unusual in this respect. Most of the world has to pay for ISBNs.

I've been with CreateSpace a long time, and when I started, they didn't even do Kindle.

They still don't (and never have, unless you're talking about their paid ebook formatting service, but they still don't handle the ebook publishing even in that case). All they do is send the print-ready PDFs over to KDP (or the file you paid them to format), where you must still log in to complete publishing. And PDFs very rarely convert well to ebook format.

Sarah,

OK, to clairfy....when I started with CreateSpace, they didn't even offer that service. I wasn't aware that there were problems with it.  I loaded all of my own Kindle books directly with amazon, and remember that it was difficult to do. I did edit two books recently and both of them wanted to be on CreateSpace, and I believe one of them let CreateSpace do their Kindle but I never got any feedback about it.

I would like to say "Neener Neener" but then I'd have to apologize and perpetuate the Canadian stereotype so I'll just sit here in my igloo watching hockey instead.

Down under we have to pay for our own refrigeration, too. The world is inherently unfair.

Up here in Fairbanks, Alaska we can use the front porch as  a refrigerator for 6 - 8 months of the year.  I guess I should say "freezer" though, rather than refrigerator.  Right now it's a freezer out there on the porch - it's 11 F, which means about -12 C.

How do we buy copies for ourselves? I seem to recall there used to be a link beside each book for purchasing author copies. I don?t see that link anymore. I?m supposed to attend a conference  in a few months, and was going to sell autographed copies. I was going to bring 50 books with me. There?s no way I can afford that if I have to buy them at retail cost through Amazon.

I still see the Order Copies link next to each of my books in my CreateSpace Dashboard. That hasn't changed. If you no longer have that link, you should contact Customer Support using the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page.

I just uploaded a book on Thursday and I didn't see that link and it concerned me. But I may simply have missed it.

Well, you won't see the "Order Copies" link until after you approve the book.  There is nothing to order until that stage.

Authors/Publishers were able to get better royalties with Create Space E Store. Now there forced to settle for less. Just doesn't seem right! Certainly sounds like business as usual though.
