Wrote children's book, but I'm not an illustrator, what can I use?

Good morning,

I am new to Createspace .  A few years ago, I wrote a children's book I would really like to submit for publication on Createspace.  It's written for the elementary to early middle school range and was meant to be a picture book; however, I am not an illustrator.  I know I cannot use Public Domain images to illustrate my book and then sell it.

Does Createspace offer any resources or does anyone know of any where I can find images which can be incorporated into a picture book intended for sale on Amazon?

Thank you for any help you can give and I hope everyone has a pleasant day

But you can use Public Domain images and sell your book.  That is the point of Public Domain.  Your copyright would cover, of course, your writing, and it would cover the selection and order of the Public Domain images, not the images themselves.

The catch is properly identifying what is in public domain. Generally, this is defined by when the work was published:

Most images, "most" is just a guess, on the internet are not in Public Domain.

There are a few art/photo sites that have free images for free commercial use.  There are many sites that offer free commercial use images for a modest fee ($10-$30 per images).  Do a Google search.  Read the terms of use.

You can also get art from artists:

Some images will be free, some you'll have to purchase from the artist.  Be as forthright as you can describing your intended use.  If you purchase an image to use, generally the artist retains the copyright for the image, and you are purchasing the image and the right to use it in your book. If you hire someone to do illustrations for you, this is a work for hire, and you hold the copyright: unless you have agreed upon language to the contrary.

A number of forum members are illustrators who offer their services. Search on illustrator using Search Community (top-left corner of page).
