Re: Best-Seller suddenly showing no sales, don't understand why!

A similar thing has happened every November/December for about 7 years now.

The details are always a little different. A couple of years, we've actually received emails from CS before it happened, other years we don't, so far this year we received an early email about EU preorders but nothing else. Which is odd because I've seen EU orders on a daily basis for weeks since that email, whereas with no email about US preorders sales of a few better sellers (in pen names) haven't been reported.

But I'm not worried, as it happens every year in some form or other and eventually gets resolved. A few years, the first holiday preorders actually reported in November, sometimes they come early in December, sometimes they come in late December or January, and one year I received reports of bulk orders in November, twice in December, January, and again in February, rather than all of them at once.

I know that eventually some bulk orders will come (perhaps on multiple dates far apart and not all at once) and things will eventually even out. I also know that they will eventually sell out of stocked copies and then reporting will continue as usual.

There are threads like this for every year going back the past 7 years. The trick is to focus on writing and marketing, and try not to spend too much time looking at your dashboard -- so you can have more books going through this stressful process next year. There are a lot of authors wishing they sold enough books to endure this sort of stress. Good luck with your books and happy holidays.

Re: Best-Seller suddenly showing no sales, don't understand why!

Yes, it will show up as one mongo order in January or February.  If it was ordered through Amazon, it will show as a large Amazon order even if it was printed at an outside printer.  If it was ordered through a non-Amazon channel, it will show up as EDC regardless of where it was printed.

It's always fun (and a relief!) when that happens.

When those "overflow" orders start getting posted, there's sometimes buzz about it on the forum here, so make sure to check back.

Re: Best-Seller suddenly showing no sales, don't understand why!

So glad it resonated and thanks for the Kindle order! I feel incredibly fortunate to have taken the work from my private counseling practice and put it into words. It's been an adventure and the irony of the trauma therapist up at 4am having a panic attack over CreateSpace Royalities is not lost on me

I haven't heard yet how the third phone call to customer service has gone but I will update when I do. It sounds like this is a "normal" event for this time of year. I wish CS would designate a specific team to call if your book sales have reached a certain level. As self publishers, we are out here figuring out as we go and extra service would be real helpful. My second book is set to launch in early spring too.

Thank you McMullen_4D Really appreciate the seasoned information. This thread is an example of how the forums are very helpful. Us newbies to the disappearing royalities will have to swing back next year and help out new authors. This is my second holiday but first of the book being pre-stocked and royalities not showing.

Re: Best-Seller suddenly showing no sales, don't understand why!

Phone call to CS went well and getting to a specialist helped. The details he gave were the same as what has been already shared here. To recap what the rep said: during peak season, distribution is given to third party printers, it can take 6-8 weeks for the royalities to post on the dashboard, it is through Expanded Distribution BUT they pay out royalities at the normal CS/Amazon rate.

Re: Best-Seller suddenly showing no sales, don't understand why!

Add me to those whose sales hit a wall on December 1, or anyhow some time before December 2 rolled along. December has always been my best sales month of the year for paperbacks, which of course go better under a Christmas tree than ebooks do. Incredibly, I have sold more copies by direct mail than Amazon has sent out the door, to judge by the CS reports. That's never happened before.

Not to sound like a wet blanket....but....I wish I had all your woes. lol. I would love to be concerned over losing track of massive sales, he, he. Oh, to be so burdened over my lowly tomes, sigh.

Joe.

Re: Best-Seller suddenly showing no sales, don't understand why!

The first time this happened to me was July 2016. I went for 9 days without a sale then had a sale of 220 books. The rest of July I sold 16 books, well below normal daily sales. I wasn't alone, I found a discussion similar to this one: https://forums.createspace.com/en/community/thread/72434?start=0&tstart=0. In that discussion it was suggested that Amazon was stocking up for 'Prime Day'.

The first three days of August 2016 were normal sales. August 4th reported a sale of 318 books.  For the 5th and 6th of August, 9 books sold then zero books until august 12th when 131 books were sold. There were no more sales until September 17th when normal daily sales resumed.

This time around sales dropped to zero November 30th with no sales as of this date.

I am not happy about how Amazon/Createspace reports sales when they stock up for special events and the Christmas season but have acepted the fact there is nothing I can do about it.

On the other hand, I'm here because I wanted to make sure it wasn't just me! 8-)

Re: Best-Seller suddenly showing no sales, don't understand why!

Update: my Amazon US royalities have started showing on the dashboard again. No where near the numbers for the book to be #8 yesterday so I know some sales have not posted but it looks like daily copies are posting again. Waiting for that bulk order to drop on the dashboard but I know it may take weeks.
