What does it mean to buy books from the eStore?

When you buy books from the eStore, are you getting them as electronic copies or hard copies? Also, how long does it generally take for your book to be put on Amazon.com? I've requested status, but I don't know how long to wait before I start getting worried. Any help would be great! Thanks guys.

When you purchase from a CS estore it is a paperback copy that same as would be purchased from amazon but the author gets a much higher % of the profits. The book is dispatched by CS.

Books can take up to a week so show up on amazon but are generally much faster. The listing gradually appears in bits. It may take three weeks for an entire listing to be up i.e. look inside etc.

Re: What does it mean to buy books from the eStore?

Good morning, ccalise,

  1. When you buy books from the eStore, you get a hard copy, just like if you bought it through Amazon.
  2. CreateSpace says it takes up to 15 for your book to show up on Amazon.  It took mine about two days.  Others have reported up to maybe a week, but I haven't seen anyone say it took the full 15 days.  I think it has something to do with when they update their database.  (I do remember looking at the "requested" status and wondering, "Is everything okay?")

Make that "When a CUSTOMER" buys a book from your estore - YOU buy books from your dashboard and save the 20% commission you would be spending if you bought from the estore.

Also, you need to understand that the amazon listing does not leap forward, fully developed as from the head of Zeus. It trickles in like, well, I'll let everyone have their own simile. You will get the initial listing with the book price and it's availability, then, typically, your author info and product info will appear. After about 2-4 weeks, the Look Inside feature will be enables. You should also go to Amazon and sign up for Author Central. This allows you to add a bunch more stuff to your listing. Be patient and Good Luck!

Re: What does it mean to buy books from the eStore?

You bring up about the Look Inside feature. Based upon what I have been reading, it sounds like Amazon is showing way too much of recently published books in the Look Inside feature. I read somewhere, perhaps Dune said it, that if you open a selling account and upload a scaled back version of the book that does not give away details we do not want to release, that is the only way to control it. My question is, do we have to give our approval to have the Look Inside feature activated for our books? If not, then I guess the idea I just mentioned may be the only way.

Re: What does it mean to buy books from the eStore?

Jim, as far as I know, the Look Inside This Book feature is not within our conrol. CS does it automatically. As for doing it myself, well, I have a seller's account and have yet to figure out how to upload my own preview. It took me forever to get CS to upload the correct files. I was so upset by what they had for people to view. It was a cover I had never approved and the interior file contained parts from my first book mixed in with my second book. It was a nightmare for three weeks. And even the file for the second book was very old. It is right now, but what an ordeal.

Maybe I will ask Dune to do a step-by-step process how to do what he did. If his schedule permits, of course. I cannot understand why Amazon feels it is in anyone's interests to show so much of a book for all to see?!
