You can get a fair amount of information from Bleeds, free, 19 page, illustrated guide to bleeds and margins, do's and don't's for CreateSpace.

The templates are good, so download one, https://www.createspace.com/Products/Book/CoverPDF.jsp. Build your cover from it.  You do not need to keep the cover on the entire white background, it can, in fact be cropped right to the outside edge of the bleed.

I've used createspace cover creator three times now and like it very much.   I've both used the images that are

available for free and I've also uploaded images I've bought from Dreamstine for around $10.   If you do the

latter make sure you have the 300 dots per inch that is required.

I used Word 2010 to put an image on a 6X9 sized page, then made a text box for the title and a text box for my name--use Format to no fill shape and text box so the photo will show behind the text if you want it like that. Both front and rear covers should look just like the Word 2010 file that you save to a jpeg file to upload to CreateSpace Cover Creator.

Do the same for a back cover then use the Cover Creator "Palm" template and load front and rear cover files. CreateSpace will convert them to PDF.If your book is large enough to have text on the spine---I don't know on that as my book was less than 100 pages.

My covers came out better than I expected.

YOur 6x9 cover should be 12.75x9 plus 1/16 inch on each side for bleed for a total of 12.875x9.125. It is better, in the long run, to learn how to do it yourself. You have more control and greater satisfaction.

Download OpenOffice (free) from http://www.openoffice.org. It is a complete office suite

Download my cover template from my website

Change the template dimensions from the current size to the size in my eariler post in the Drawing program.

Lay in your back cover and front cover. Then lay in your text. When you go to lay in your spine you will need to rotate 90 degrees - check the help files to find the right icon in the tool box.

then use the File/Export to PDF and upload to CS.

It is all explained in detail in my book below, but if you are relative conversant with a computer you should be able to do it from what I just posted.

Are you proficient in any graphics editing software (Photoshop, GIIMP, Paintshop etc)? If so CS has cover templates that you can use to get the proper bleed, size, and layout. These can be located here: https://www.createspace.com/Help/Book/Artwork.do

CS cover design specs can also be seen here: https://www.createspace.com/Products/Book/CoverPDF.jsp
