Amazon Tax Exemption for LLC S or C Corp?

I was waiting for my 1099-MISC from Amazon but this year (2017) did not come. After emailing Amazons 1099 email they state I am tax exempt since I’m a S Corp LLC?? This doesn’t make sense to me and I asked them again to explain since I got tax forms for 2015 and 2016.

Anyone else in this situation? Thanks!

No, you're certainly not tax exempt! I'm sure that what Support means is that THEY are exempt from having to send you a 1099, because the IRS trusts corporations more than it does individuals.

Similarly, as a sole proprietor I have to send a 1099-MISC to any individual whom I pay more than $600 in the calendar year. But if I buy a $650 computer from Dell, no 1099 is required. The object here is to catch small operators who might cheat on taxes.

I am surprised that an S corp qualifies. I would think they'd be the most likely to sail close to the wind.

Good luck! -- NJ
