Beta Readers - Pros and Cons

As I come towards the end of my second novel, I look towards my options:

1) Submission to Beta Reader

2) Submission to agent

3) Straight sumbmisison to publisher (in all probability, the most unwise).

And then of course there’s self-publication.

I have little experience with 2 or 3, and although this is a site of self-published authors, I was wondering if I could bottomfeed off some wisdom in regards to my two grey areas.

Many thanks,

(Hopefully a tad older and a tad wiser).

Go through beta readers even if you are going to go to option 2 and 3.  The better it is, the more likely as agent will read it; the better it is, the more liley readers will reader it.

There's advice on how to indie publish around.  I've even co-written a how to book: and there are others.

Re: Beta Readers - Pros and Cons

FYI, it's difficult to find good beta readers in specific genres, they are usually swamped, too.

My experience with them are not so good. They wanted to change the voice in my story and add their own twist.

I decided to write, edit, and publish my own debut book.

No book will be mistake free. If you are horrible with proper grammar and writing then I would suggest a beta reader or editor(they are expensive).

Good luck

A pros would probably be a good beta reader choice, as she would undoubtedly have time to read between tricks. Likewise, cons have nothing but time on their hands, although it might be tough to get your manuscript through prison security.
