Artwork within Novel

Hello! I would like an opinion as to whether or not drawings within the text are popular. My art work would be used to show places that I have described in a chapter.

Thank you

Pattie

Re: Artwork within Novel

It's your book, so do what you want to do - but do it well. Better to be happy with what you've done than do something different to chase a couple more sales. And besides, I think many people appreciate illustrations.

I do have another point to make. For me, novels work primarily as a stimulus to my imagination, rather than as a form of information transmission. Many beginning authors overlook this, and it can sometimes jar when the author overspecifies the layout of a room, for example, and that happens to be in conflict with how I had already imagined it. The same caution applies to illustrations - so place them where they help to form mental images, rather than after the images might have formed.
