Re: What kind of pen do you use for autographs?

www.themikvehscrolls.com Uni ball Vision Elite with blue-black ink... Usually sign the half title page, and always with a personal message. I like to take time with anyone who is gracious enough to ask for an autograph.

I found some retractable, fine point, black sharpies that so far have worked well. I also like the Uniball gel's.

To help promote my first book, I made some handout, business size, cards. The front is a picture of the book cover, and the back is a few sentences about the book and the ISBN. I left enough space for an autograph and I have signed a few that I always carry. Everyone should.

What? No one else uses finger paints or crayons? What is this world coming to?

Trouble is they don't make the real fat crayons any more. . . . and now that they have made them safe to eat they're no fun. Heck the library paste isn't minty either!

Yeah, and charcoal gets kinda smudgy.

Walton,

I know. The colors were always more brilliant with high levels of lead content.

Pam,

If you don't want to make a mess, then don't use charcoal. OR grab a bricket and wrap it in a paper towel. Of course, with any charcoal you are limited to 256 shades of black to gray and that makes it a bit limiting.

True, and I could put the bricket on the bar-b afterwards.

Maybe lipstick . . .

What!?! And make Dorothy suspicious? No way Jose... ah, Pam. That just doesn't rhyme. Hmmm. How about "No SPAM, Pam." or "Take a tram, Pam." or even "Scram Pam." Yeah that's the one!

LOL  Okay, how about mascara?

Maybe don't show Dorothy what I'll be sending you today.

I use paint pens, but it's been ages since I've signed anything.

Smiley face, then name, in silver paint pen. I blow on it and poke it to make sure it's dry and hand it to the person.

If you google "silver paint pen signature" you'll see it comes from signing headshots/photos/movie posters and sports paraphenalia. Shows up on pretty much any color, does glossy well without being smudgey, and looks pretty nifty.

Re: What kind of pen do you use for autographs?

Have you thought of giving talks to ladies groups, civic groups, fraternal organizations, church groups, service groups? Talk about your experience as an independent publisher, the trials and tribulations, the joys and pride... One speech a week and you could be selling a lot of books in a months time. Don't offer a book as a prize, though. People don't buy if they think they have a chance of winning. This ought to increase your sales and your trail of empty paint pens.
